Norway is a member of the Mid-Peninsula conference, made up of class B and C schools.  Over the years the Knights, one of the smallest schools in the conference, have held their own against the larger conference schools.

Norway High School

Norway High School, the home of the Knights, offers their students many choices in which sports to participate in during their high school careers. Norway is a member of the Mid-Peninsula conference, made up of class B and C schools. Schools in the Mid-Peninsula conference are Gwinn, Iron Mountain, Ishpeming, Manistique, Negaunee, Westwood and the Knights of Norway. Over the years the Knights, one of the smallest schools in the conference, have held their own against the larger conference schools.

Fall Season

One sport offered during the fall for the boys is football. The Knights field both a JV team as well as a Varsity team. The teams play a nine game schedule kicking off in late August and concluding the third week in October. The state of Michigan has a play-off system for a state championship at the end of the regular season. Norway has been a participant many times, most recently this season.

The Knights also have a sideline cheer squad for both our JV and Varsity teams. The girls cheer at all of the home football games and the Varsity also travels to cheer at the away games.

Cross Country is another fall sport offered to both boys and girls. Meets are held after school during the week as well as on Saturdays. The season concludes with a U.P. championship held the third week in October.

Volleyball is offered as one of the girls sports during this season. Norway has both a JV and Varsity team in volleyball. The teams participate in tournaments on Saturdays during the regular season. The regular season begins in early August and concludes in late November. A state tournament also follows this sport conducted again by the M.H.S.A.A.

Winter Season

Boys basketball is the one of the sports attractions during the winter season. The format is the same for both the girls and boys seasons. The season tips off in early December and concludes the first week in March. A state tournament follows the regular season and consists of three additional weeks of basketball action.

Girls basketball is a program open to girls in the winter. Norway has a JV and Varsity program in this sport. The season begins in early December and runs through March. All Varsity in classes A, B, C, and D take part in a post-season state tournament. The tournament, as well as other tournaments that our athletes take part in, are regulated by the M.H.S.A.A. of which Norway is a member.

Wrestling is offered as a boys sport but in recent years girls have also been a part of this team. Norway has both a JV and Varsity team in wrestling. The regular season starts in early December and concludes in early March.

One of the fastest growing sports in the winter is competitive cheer. The Knights have cheer teams at both the JV and Varsity levels. Norway hosts a cheer competition, the Norway Invitational, along with other schools on weekends during the season. The fan interest is remarkable. The Varsity team has qualified for the state competition numerous times and has done very well. In 2007-2008, they were also crowned the Mid-Pen Conference Champions. This program is also regulated by the M.H.S.A.A.

Norway also is involved in two co-op programs with Iron Mountain and Kingsford. Our swimming team and hockey team are the two sports we co-op with Kingsford. Our athletes compete with students from these two schools as one team. Kingsford hires the coaches and sets the schedules. The swim and hockey season begin in December and continue into March.

Norway also gives varsity letters to a bowling team even though the team is not recognized as a varsity sport yet. The MHSAA now recognizes bowling and a state tournament is held. Our bowling team plays most of its matches on weekends.

Spring Season

Track is a spring co-ed sport offered at Norway High School. The track season begins in the middle of April and concludes the first weekend of June. Norway will host three or four track meets during the season. Norway has a beautiful football/track complex known as Ronberg Field. The track season concludes with a U.P. track meet held in Kingsford.

Golf is another spring sport offered by the Knights. This sport also consists of a boys as well as girls team. Norway's home matches are played at Oak Crest golf course here in Norway. The regular season begins in the middle of April and concludes in early June. Numerous invitational tournaments are held during the course of the season. The season concludes with a U.P. boys and girls tournament again conducted by the MHSAA.

The boys tennis season is also held in the spring. The boys team has some girls try out and play during the past few years. We no longer have girls tennis in the fall due to lack of numbers. Therefore, we allow girls to try out for the boys team. The regular season follows the golf and track seson, and there also is a U.P. tennis tournament.

Vulcan Middle School

Norway also offers basketball, track, and cheerleading at the junior high level.

Norway is a part of a conference made of up eight schools that sponsor both boys and girls basketball teams. The girls season runs from early September through late October. The regular season is followed by a league tournament. The boys season starts in early December and runs through February. This season also has a post-season tournament.

The track season is made up of a co-ed team that participates in a five meet season. Norway hosts one meet along with other area schools. The track season runs from the middle of April through the middle of May.

Norway's junior high cheer squad is made up of a sideline cheer team and a competitive cheer team. This season runs concurrently with the boys basketball season. Teams are selected by try-outs held prior to the season.
